Most people don't have the time, money, or energy to watch many movies, so when you do get a chance to watch something, you want it to be worthwhile. That's why Rotten Tomatoes exists: to give a snapshot of whether a movie is worth your time. But does it always work? I'll be watching all of Rotten Tomatoes’ Certified Fresh movies from this Wikipedia list, and we'll see if these movies are really worth the hype.
Movie 4 of 2026:

The Wrecking Crew, directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, is a buddy comedy/action movie about brothers James (Dave Bautista) and Jonny (Jason Momoa). I've said before that I'm not the biggest action-movie person, so I wasn't really looking forward to this, especially since it's direct-to-streaming. Looking back, I did not enjoy the last direct-to-streaming action movie I watched very much.
I'm pleased to say that I didn't hate this movie. In fact, I found it quite charming in many aspects. I really enjoyed the performances from our two leads. I always enjoy Dave Bautista, and actually think he's a really underrated actor who has the ability to bring out real depth of emotion. Jason Momoa, I was initially a little unsure of, but that's probably because I haven't seen much of his work. I found him quite funny as the wild card brother in contrast to Batista's more straight man brother.
The story wasn't too complex, which is expected from this type of movie. Our brothers are essentially trying to uncover the mystery of their father's death, as well as trying to escape a gang that believes they have information that they want. What I think made the story pop was the inclusion of Hawaiian culture. I don't see too many films with those themes, so that made me more interested as well.
The fight scenes were well-choreographed as far as I could tell. As someone who isn't a huge action fan, sometimes fight scenes can blur together for me, but these had some standout moments. One fight in particular had a moment with a cheese grater that really got me. Most of the fights were our protagonists against no-name gang members, which does lessen the sense of urgency. However, one of the fights with a named antagonist, Nakamura (Miyavi), was my favorite in the film. That character was so unhinged, and I was delighted every time he was on screen.
There wasn't really anything in this movie that I found to be bad. I think it knew what kind of movie it wanted to be, and it succeeded in all of those aspects. It won't be my favorite movie of the year or anything, but I wasn't bored or upset that I was watching this movie. It's as much fun as an action movie like this is meant to be, and that's a good thing in my book.
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 76%
Is it worth the hype?:
Yes, it is. You know exactly what you're getting when you look at the movie poster. It knows what kind of movie it is, and it does it well. The cast is likable, the fights are cool, so what more could you ask for? Give this a chance if you like any of the actors, and if you are an action movie person, you'll probably love this.
